The Mendrisiotto and lower Ceresio are a triangle of land bounded southward by the Swiss-Italian border, just a short distance from Lugano, Lake Maggiore, Como and the tourist and industrial centres of Northern Italy. Due to its location at the entrance of Switzerland, this small region has become, with the evolution of communications and traffic, a site for important commercial and tourist transit. Evidence of this evolution are the development of the services sector, particularly in Chiasso, and the establishment of several industrial complexes of Balerna and Stabio, not infrequently, unfortunately, to the detriment of the rural landscape of the region.
Having the opportunity to move away from the motorway, to get to know this generous and sunny land more closely, you will discover charming places that invite you to stay and rest. In the case of Valle di Muggio, for example, almost wild, with its villages clinging to steep slopes, or St. George region, sweet and inviting, or lakeside villages, which still preserve the original appearance of the fishing hamlets.
