The city of Lugano is situated on the western shore of the Lake of the same name. The town is flanked by mountains: South san Salvatore (915m) and to the North the Monte Brè (925m). Place at 277m above sea level and given the mildness of its climate (Mediterranean) and its geographical position, is one of the most famous tourist destinations in Switzerland. The city includes the headquarters of several major banks busiest streets, stores and boutiques. Lugano during the middle ages, was disputed by the Bishops of Como and by the Dukes of Milan for its logistical and commercial importance. In 1518 the town was in possession of 12 Swiss cantons. The freedom of the 1798 led to independence within the Confederation in 1803.
Today Lugano, with its many events, the rich cultural offer, the excursions, the shopping for all tastes and the “lombardo” ambience, is a world-class city.
