The Belinzona market is a popular event that has been claimed to be one of the best Ticinian traditions. In the city’s historic district, among the signs of the ancient inns, multicoloured well prepared stalls draw in visitors to buy fresh top-quality products, at favourable prices. The market offers the best Ticinian vegetable and fruit products of the season; delicatessen specialities prepared by ancient home-made recipes and delicious cheeses from the valley are on sale together with the delicious local bread; all in a floral setting. Next to the joys of the table other objects are available, from knick-knacks to clothing, from hardware supplies to the best handcrafted products, some made right there in front of the curious visitor. The market has become a fun place to meet the people and many restaurants offer typical lunches at moderate prices.
Every Thurday, from 9 to 17 h
Every Thursday (every 15 days in winter) the Piazza Grande is filled with stalls selling all kinds of products. What is very particular and characteristic are the stalls that sell local handmade crafted products: fabrics, products in wool, ceramics and wooden objects. Ticinian gastronomy can also be found at the market, like our farmers’ fresh cheese, eggs, fruit and vegetables. Vendors who offer second hand merchandise, like disks, books, music tapes and clothing can also be found.
